"'He has fallen asleep. He has fallen asleep,' Aunty Ifeoma said, finally" (Adichie 183). This part of the story was really shocking for me as the reader. It made me wonder if Eugene would check up on his dad who fell ill considering he does not practice Catholicism. If not, this would put more emphasis as a reader on the qualities and beliefs of Euguene or the main characters father in a negative light.

"'Why did you become a priest?' I blurted out, then wished I had not asked, that the bubbles in my throat had not let that through" (Adichie 179). I chose this quote because it shows the first time the main character has spoken up during a conversation with those who are not catholic. Her being inquisitive is able to light a new spark in the character, which was something interesting as a reader.

"'Do you think we are abnormal?' I asked, in a whisper" (Adichie 151). I picked this quote because this is among the first times that the main character is starting see life beyond her home and Catholicism. To be able to experience different cultures she starts seeing a new perspective, which is new for her.

"We took turns bathing in narrow bathroom, with half-full buckets of water, warmed for a while with a heating coil plunged into them" (Auburn 129). The main character was experiencing a different lifestyle other than hers, at this stage of the story. I found it interesting to see her point of view/ how it impacts her after living in a rich family to see how different surroundings are for those less privileged.

"Papa told us we cared too much about huge church buildings and mighty statues. You would never see white people do that" (Adichie 104). I picked this quote because it shows how the dad believes in order to stand away from the crowd, or seem superior, he must speak english, rather than his native language. This made me realize that we should be proud our ethnicity, regardless of differences.

“What is Anikwenwa doing in my house? What is a worshiper of idols doing in my house? Leave my house!’” (Adichie 70).
I chose this quote mainly because it is able to show one of the characters in the book or the dad in a new light. It confirms, as a reader, how much the dad appreciates Christian values and through this, it is able to show how a closed mindset can impact yourself and those around you.
