Nobody walks in at first but then at the last moment Shawn squeezes in. He greets everyone in the elevator with a smile, but when it comes to Will, he just stands there blankly. The most odd part of it all is when Will comes clean with all of his feelings to Shawn, he responds with sobbing tears. At the end, everyone but Will leaves the elevator symbolizing that he doesn't want to go through with killing Riggs.

Another man named Frick walks into the elevator. Buck and Frick agree they know each other, but what was surprising to me was that Buck said Frick was the guy who killed him. Frick tells the story, saying how he did it to become a Dark Sun, and everyone respects it. I found this really weird and sad how he has to prove himself by doing something bad. Then, Frick tells Will that Shawn followed the Rules and shot him.

In this section, Will's father explains the story of how he got revenge on his brother, Uncle Mark's, killer. It was basically the same situation that Will is in now, which I think is why it hit so hard with him. Will's dad says that he did end up shooting Gee, who he thought killed his brother, but Gee was not the one who killed his brother. Out of nowhere, Will's dad takes Will's gun and puts it to Will's head.

The elevator doors open once again and in walks Will's father. Will explains that he never knew his dad and he was killed because he killed his brother's killer. Will also tells us that he just wants to tell his dad everything that's been going on and how he feels. Holding back tears he reminds himself of the rules and that there are other people in the elevator with them; and so he decides against it.

What I found odd about this was that Uncle Mark came barreling through and, as it seemed,out of no where, put Will in a headlock and started choking him. This struck me as odd because I could never see any of my uncles doing this to me. Once again, Will is doubted that he can pull off the murder of Riggs.

It is revealed during this part of the book that the girl's name who walked into the elevator after Buck is Dani. She was a childhood friend of Will's and was shot and killed at age eight. There seems to be a reoccuring theme here, where those from Will's past who were killed are coming back to ask him about the gun.

Will tells Buck about his plan to kill Riggs and Buck just laughs at him. Buck points out that he hasn't even checked to see if the gun was loaded yet, which I thought was funny as well, and tells him he doesn't have it in him. Then, they get to the next floor and a girl enters the elevator. Right away, I'm confused because she is able to see Buck even though I thought he was just a part of Will's imagination.
