These are females, btw. The males live in harems inside the tubes.

Ew, the male latches on to the female and their flesh grows into each other, to the point where they share the same circulatory system. O.O

So if I understand this correctly, female anglerfish are blind and male anglerfish have huge eyes. The bioluminsescent bacteria in the female's lure flash in species-specific patterns, which the male looks for. Interesting.

The Pokemon interpretation of an anglerfish is definitely a lot cuter.
