Brain is finding himself alone in the woods again with very little supplies. He kills some fish or deer for his meals. His parents don't really understand him in some ways. He finds a dog in the woods that is a companion. One family that lives in the woods that knows him. After finding some food he goes back to there house and realizes there all dead and that a bear has done this. He investigates what really happen.

Brain, the main character, has a very deep conflict in the way of finding the others that is still alive. He faces many obstacles that lead him to be even more fierce than the people that just gave up. He actually wants to solve this mystery. The purpose of this whole book was after a tragedy happens don't give up just keep pushing through because you wont get anywhere if you don't try,
