We're being asked by the professor to skip around chapters within this book, so I've finished more than 192 pages. I'll leave class with the acronyms FDI and MNC lasered into my brainwaves. Sadly, the writing in this book is more arid than the Gobi desert, but it's not meant to be a literary novel.

I'm keeping up with the assigned weekly reading for economics class. This week covers pros and cons of the formation of the European Union / Euro currency. Close to 15 years later, Gilpin's views remain relevant.

I'm glad that I read "The Emergency State" prior to reading this book. Recent presidential / American history proves useful when reading economic history from WWII to the present day. The writing in this book is a bit dry, but the explanations are simple enough for the lay person. I'm learning a lot.

This is one of the required reading books for my political/economics class. I'm surprised we were assigned a book written in 2000, but it's interesting to see how recent history from the 1990's stacks up against current events. Some of the predictions from back in the day are on a bull's eye target today. By no means is this speed reading, but it's of interest and I'm not falling asleep while reading!
