How ironic that the previous novel, Norwegian Wood, was his strongest so far—yet Murakami states that he wrote this one to heal himself of the fame Norwegian Wood brought him. On one hand, it’s admirable to see an author stick to their formula; on another it’s sad to see glimpses of human depth and artistry closed off. Nevertheless, I carry on through the œuvre.
