Sound came out for movies, and Charlie despises it. For its time, "City Lights" sold more tickets than any sound movie. The book has metaphors and similes all over the place. Sometimes they are hard to understand, but that might be okay for the comprehension.

Mildred Harris tricked Chaplin into marrying her for money. By the time of their divorce, she received $200,000 and property. Chaplin made his famous movie "The Kid" which is kind of like his own biography. Jackie Coogan who starred in the film was Uncle Fester in the Addams Family.

When Charlie Chaplin was starting his acting career with Fred Carno's company, Stan Laurel was his understudy. Charlie did many plays before he started directed and starring in movies. Charlie is now directing films and he is very successful. There are interesting facts in this book such as Mack Sennett was the actor who invented throwing a custard pie in people's faces in the movies. Charlie Chaplin is hard to work with because he wants it his way.

So far, I am on page 35. I read about Chaplin's early life and his sad orphanage stories. The book made me almost cry because the author is making me lean into the book so much.
