throughout the chapters laras "love letters" gets sent out to both peter and josh, Because josh is her sisters ex she tries to avoid him as much as possible which causes her to kiss peter in front of him which forces him to believe lara and peter are dating. they then come to an agreement to continue pretenting that they actually are dating. peter uses this fake relationship to make his ex jealous...

through out the chapters josh slowly confesses to Lara that he had a crush on her when they were younger it catches her by surprise for the reason that she too had a crush on him and because he dated her sister.however weeks into the new school year she explains how everything is going alright until peter approaches & ask about the letter she had sent out. but little does peter know she didn't actually send a letter.

on page 48 Lara gets into a car accident on her way to the mall, she waits on the side walk while she waits on josh. peter (guy who was her first kiss) pulls over she explains how close they were and how things changed and what not . finally josh pulls up and takes her home and explains how he still wants to stick around she be involved with their family.

Lara backtracks to the day josh asked Margot to be his girlfriend and explains how she envied her sister so much she decided to write a letter to help get over him, however she doesn't send it out to him but still decides to keep it hidden in her closet.
