i think that the entire book was mostly about equal rights. This is because every poem was about this black girl who was treated poorly and how she couldnt be involved in things that white people were able to be involved in. I think this book gave a strong message that showed how segragation was back when there were no equal rights, and what the ups and donws were for being an african american.

One of the poems is about a black girl who has been offered to dance infront of the town, in a town essembly, but is not proud of herself because others judge ehr as a bad dancer just because of her skin color. Because of this, someone put an article in the newspaper about her and how she should get kicked out of the dance team, because she is a "bad dancer".
