Wawan’s Reviews > Sarmada > Status Update

It's a well-translated book by a Syrian author who currently resides in Dubai. Narrated in first person by a movie maker visiting Syria and his childhood hometown to make a movie that's supposed to serve as the bridge between East & West, Sarmada has so far excited me w/ its casual narrative style and nicely-jumpy plot structure. Btw, it strangely doesn't read like a novel set in a land unknown to me that is Syria.
