My question: A while ago, Minny put her feces in Hillys pie. Hilly ate two slices of it, thinking it was the best she had ever ate. Now, this situation has caused a lot of problems recently. Do you think what Hilly did was justified? (A)

I believe the author’s goal of chapter 25 was to show the building tension between Hilly and her enemies. I think she accomplished her goal with her word choice. For example, the author describes Hilly, “clenching her fists...throws down the papers....narrows her eyes...” (W)

A moment that inspired me was when Celia fought off the man in her backyard to save Minny. This shows that things are starting to change in their area. Beforehand, a white woman would have never risked her life to save a black woman. (F)

In summary, Skeeter told Hilly she would post the bathroom initiative. However when Skeeter posted it, it turns out the initiative said to put toilets on Hilly’s lawn. I loved this part of the book because it was very amusing, and really emphasized Skeeters hatred toward Hilly. (S)

Skeeter’s mother is said to be getting sicker everyday because of her stomach ulcers. I was not sure what ulcers were, so I looked them up. Stomach ulcers develop when the stomach lining burns through muscle. It causes severe abdominal pain. (V)

A moment that inspires me is when Pascagoula opens up to Skeeter for her book. This truly pushes racial customs at the time because Pascagoula is Skeeters maid.

Minny says to Dr. Tate, “You ain’t really gone tell Mr Johnny bout this...” This dialogue shows the special bond that had formed between Celia and Minny. Beforehand, Minny would not have cared what happened on Celia’s relationship; however, after the miscarriage, they are very close. (W)
