There is absolutely no chance that I’m 1) going to bed before this is finished tonight and 2) waiting on the library to get the next one back in. September 11? Not gonna make it.

This moment when Vasya (in the Church with Olga) realizes what Olga has sacrificed and what happens to all women and what awaits Marya - it’s brilliant. It’s the underlying theme running through both books (and lets hope the third) that resonates so strongly with me and makes them truly excellent.

In the first book it felt like threat resolution rested heavily on Vasya. How would she react? What would she do? Now are threats are more external. And I find that I worry more. I have complete faith in Vasya. But these men make bad decisions.
