Taking my time with this one, it seems. It's a good read, just a little dry. Right now, he is talking about the symbolic animals of the Church: eagle, ox, lion, and man.

This seems rather pagan, doesn't it? Is there a dogmatic or theological argument for this?

I've come to this after reading _Foucault's Pendulum_ and it comes highly recommended. I like that it is not simply art history, but also a history of symbolism within the Church.
