Do you ever start a book and feel like there is an immediate agenda in it? Because this stinks of it. From the father that instructs his son on his inherited privilege, to the cousin's husband ranting about the white extinction. This just put me on the edge, I am not sure if I like where this book is leading me and if this blunt introduction was required or could have been done better.

Also this character Tom Buchanan, he is de factum villain. He cheats on his wife, he is aggressive and pompous, he believes in some kind of new-age bullshit and racial sciences. He is bigoted and rude. On the other hand, Gatsby is the man that through his hard work and dedication has achieved riches and now is fighting for the love of his life. It's onesided and near excusing Daisy's cheating and Gatsby's quest.

I am quite enjoying this drama, especially the scenes of courting that happened in our protagonist's house. It made me laugh and sympathize. I have some critiques. For example, the main conflict is between Gatsby, Tom, and Daisy, this love triangle. So our protagonist is passive through his eyes we see it all and even infer feelings of people. And without a doubt they are correct. This kinda pulls me out of it.

The book is written in the first person and in comparison to another book I am reading at this time, which is also written from a first-person perspective, I have to appreciate the style and skill. Reading this author is a ride in comparison to a french author I shall not name.

The man Gatsby is shrouded in mystery. He has an unsettling aura surrounding him. He takes a liking to our protagonist seemingly he is also a man that served in the war. At the same time, we meet a woman prone to trickery (alright), Jordan, who is also a professional golf player. Jordan was also a subject of interest to Gatsby for yet unknown reasons.

I followed through with this book and it shifted from my suspicions to something more interesting. The book follows a man straight from WW I that is working as a clerk. One time he took some time off to relax and has enveloped himself into some middle-class drama. While in the country he lived next door to a rich man Gatsby that held frequent parties.
