This is a masterful book, considered a classic now of Russian literature, it was published forty years after the writer died. What he suffered under communist Russia, and the change, and the addition of a Faustian element. The atheism of the Communists delights him. The book is funny as all hell and poignant and telling and... I have been reading it over and over since my first read, picking up about anywhere.
