This book is pretty good, given how dry it could be. I agree with assessments that (at least so far), the book is pretty much only concerned with discussing political intrigues of the ruling sultans and their viziers, and the addition or subtraction of domains to the Ottoman kingdom. Again, given such a narrow frame, I find the book still engaging... but perhaps that's just a matter of personal taste.

Definitely informative beyond any other single Ottoman/Turkish history book I've read, but I agree with other reader assessments that its chronological structure can be repetitive and ultimately confusing. You are often reading the same stories play out time and again with different Turkish names. It would've been good to have some chapter outlines/maps of general periods of time. Still, this book needs more praise.
