in the book forged by fire, Gerald the main character, is three years old and once and a while his mother leaves and telles him to hide in behind the couch, while she see leroy,and by the time she leaves and comes back she is stoned and the mother tells the boy "never get near mother when she is doing the white stuff."this tells me that his mother is uncabable of taking care of a chilled, abusing him and hurting him
