Okay - I know that writers are complete human beings with varied interests and need to be able to express themselves in varied styles, but... it's tricky when you hold an author particularly beloved because of a certain type of writing and then they depart from that. I'm having trouble making my way through this because I love the Caleb Carr of "the Alienist" and this is a whole new side to him.
