Bigger tries run away and not be captured but he is cornered and eventually found. People call him a black ape as if he were an animal. Max one of Jan's friend wants to help Bigger get through the court and not have him killed. Bigger does not tell anyone the true story because no one would believe it. When he is treated as a human, he feels weird and slowly becomes hopeful of not reiceving death sentence.

Bigger wants to keep going with trying to ransom the Dalton's a thousand dollars for their daughter even though she is dead. Bigger writes the letter, puts it in the Dalton mailbox , enters the house casually. Mr. Dalton gets surprised when he sees this letter and immediatly calls the investigaters. While everyone was in the house, Bigger had to clean out the ash tray and they found bones and a earring.

Bigger feels like sometime was unlocked when he killed Mary but still is very afraid he might get caught. inorder for that not to happen he wants to ransom Mary's rich parents secretly and get the money and run away.

Bigger Accidently hits Mary hard on her head because he did not want to be found out that he was playing with her when her blind mother walked in. finding out she is dead he decides to burn her body up instead making a better excuse. the body won't woth so he cuts her head off and puts in the furnace

not much happened but Bigger Thomas, his brother Buddy, sister Vera, and his mother live in a small apartment. They seem poor and they are not happy about it. Bigger kills a rat.
