The type of narrative my book follows is that they are including flashbacks to better explain the story. During the story there is a constant bounce back between Anna’s petition (present time) and the journey through Kate’s cancer diagnosis and everything that followed. This helps to show the readers how the characters got to where they are now as well as better understand the role they play.

One important minor character from the book is Jesse, Anna and Kate’s brother. Kate is constantly the focus of everything, therefore other charcters in the book like Jesse tend to be neglected. He is somewhat of a rebel, however we find out that family really means a lot to him through his constant donation of blood to Kate and his support to Anna. He could come off as a bad influence, but he really has a good heart.

A lot of the time when they speak on Kate’s hospital visits they mention the time of day to symbolize how much of an emergency it was. They frequently say how their visit was in the middle of the night. This symbolizes how much of an emergency it was since they have to go during a time where they would typically be sleeping.

In my book the main character is used as a form of supply to provide what her sister needs to live. While this is a very difficult situation, so far I feel as though the book has taken on a more playful tone. I think this because Anna the main character has shared many of her silly thoughts as well as her playful interactions with the other characters. However I feel as though this might change as I learn more.
