This must have been very desperate and scary for japan. With so much at stake how can each civilian survive? How did geisha survive? Wouldn’t most men be at war or too busy trying to fix anything and everything?

“I wanted to ask if there had ever been a man who brought out feelings of passion in her.” (Golden 295)
I thought Sayuri would be happy to have nobu as her danna. As a geisha you never expect more than a danna because it is your life to entertain and make money to survive. So why is she all of a sudden so wrapped up in true feelings?

I’m confused, it’s seem like Sayuri has feelings toward the chairman but why? I mean like yeah sure he did tell you those encouraging words years ago but why does that still matter?
