after the visit with an unknown horseback rider that warns that the British are coming Adams father along with other people of the town go to the church and discuss what they should do. one of the men say they should fight but Adams dad claims they stay put and not fight. this foreshadows what is going to happen within the book. i think that the the town will end up fighting against the British army.

after a tragic event in the town, Adam runs away into the woods were he meets a man who leads him to the U.S army. after a victorious battle they rest for a bit then go back to fighting. they hide in the bushes and shoot the redcoats from a distance Adam realizes that his gun will not do any good so he sleeps. many people think he is dead but when he returns to his village they welcome him.

after being woken up by his brother (who had a nightmare) Adam and his brother Levi go out to the window just to look up to the night sky. all of the sudden a rider racing his horse rides through the town. the rider warns the town that the British are coming. this book is a very suspense-full book full of historical references. I think that the war of April morning will happen next in the book.

after a large fight with his father Adam storms out of the house goes for a walk with his friend ruth together they talk about many things about the war and the ship owners and then he gets home were his brother makes a harsh comment about shooting someone and then they are both sent up to bed

adam is set in the dinner table with his family recently after being punished and his strict father strikes up an conversation with Adam which dismays him because his father does not talk much to him. after that thier neigbor comes in and has some dinner with them and talks about the mothers family.
