Winston has met with O'Brien. They discussed what sacrifice they might have to go through if they join the brotherhood. Julia and Winston may never see each other again if they decide to go through with it. They could even get a whole new identity with a whole new face.

It explained in more depth what had happened to Winston's family. Winston's father disappeared. His mother and sister and disappeared randomly when he went outside. He is now discussing with Julia about his mother but she's gotten quite bored of that. She gets bored of discussion with Winston a lot lately.

Winston has returned to the shop where he brought the paperweight and diary. This time, he invited Julia and now they have chosen the room on the top of the store as their hideout. Julia has stolen real food. White bread, jam, real coffee and tea, and a few other things.

Julia and Winston are having a secret love affair. I have learned that Julia is twenty-six and absolutely despises the party. Winston and Julia have met up in random areas quite often. They have also successfully made love in the ruins of a church that was destroyed by a nuclear bomb a few years back.

Winston has met up with the young girl that gave him the note. It took him a week to even get the chance to talk to her, let alone agree on meeting. He learned that her name was Julia and that she didn't like the party either.

Winston suspects that a girl from work is a spy or part of the thought police. He has seen her looking at him many times and stalking him. Four days after he caught her following him, she slipped him a piece of paper with only the words "I LOVE YOU". Winston was stunned by the paper and doesn't know what to think. He thought the paper was a death threat or something, he wasn't expecting words of affection.

Winston leaves the bar after no luck with the old man. He finds himself in front of the shop where he bought the diary and ended up wandering in. He found a piece of coral encased in glass and bought it because he liked the thought of it being from the past.

Winston went down to a not so good neighborhood and went to a pub there. He talked to an old man at the pub to get some truth about the past.

Thought crime is thinking bad of Big Brother. Face crime is showing disgust for Big Brother. Own life are people who are allowed to live freely, like the proles.

There is something called newspeak which is basically just the old language changed to make it simpler. They said by 2050 that no one would even know the oldspeak language. Oldspeak is the language of old times with large words and synonyms and antonyms and all the fancy words. An example of newspeak is ungood instead of bad.
