Captain Beatty visits montag and describes to him what the world was like before and why it is the way it is now. Beatty says that those who are unique are better off dead, as they wouldn’t really fit in in the world they are in now. This reminds montag of clarisse. Is she really dead? Is what his wife said true? did she really get tan over?

Montag talks with clarisse, and she talks about what her uncle said about the “old world”. She discusses the fact that teens her age kill each other and don’t know what responsibility is. what made the world like it is during the book? why do teens kill each other? what was the world like before? was it like ours?

Montag arrives at the fire station and sees the “hound”. the hound is a robotic machine that resembles a dog, but t has 8 legs apparently. i visualized a robotic mess of metal, wire, and lights clustered together resembling the shape of a dog, and it’s sharp, horrid teeth.

After the suicide incident, the two have a conversation in the next morning. The way they talk is a bit weird. Guy’s wife speaks as if the world is about her self and pretends that she didn’t commit suicide. Guy puts an attempt to care and ask what happened, and tries to be reasonable. Maybe the world they live in has just been altered by some power?

Montag comes home and thinks about what the girl said about happiness, and realizes he isn’t happy at all. he uses a lighter to see in the dark and finds that his wife has committed suicide (using sleeping pills). Their world seems to have access to simple pharmaceuticals as well as we do.

The main character, Guy montage is walking home when he comes across an odd girl. they decide to walk home together, as they’re neighbors. the girl says “odd” things that makes guy laugh and he doesn’t think much of the things that she says. Does what she says have importance? what does his reaction say about his views?
