Ok. So Ev’s transness and “strange” behaviour come from “insanity” from being “contaminated” with and “cursed” by magic. Could’ve had this character act erratically as a result of magic without pushing the narrative that transness is mental illness but ok

....is Astrid’s mother supposed to be a trans man? Bc if so, this entire book is misgendering him, calling him delusional, and mind-controlling him to go to therapy so “she” can become “normal” again. The protagonist literally used the words “gender dysphoria” (in quotation marks, as if dismissively) and clearly described transition, so uh. UHH.
