As the story is progressing, the smaller stories that seemed seperate are coming together in one big plot. The Brotherhood has been summoning the dragon fairly regularly, and the Watch is having a very difficult time finding where the dragon came from and why it has only destroyed a fruit stand and a vegetable shop. Meanwhile, Carrot helps the librarian search for a missing book called "The Summoning of Dragons".

This book was a little slow to get into, and the author seems to jump around between storylines, but it is still a very interesting book. The main protagonist is Carrot, a human raised by dwarves who ends up volunteering for the Night Guard (kind of like police). The author also follows the story of the leader of a local brotherhood that ends up becoming a dragon-summoning cult.
