I am maybe two hours into this book so far (listening to the audio book), and there is just so much to remember! So doctors started using more and more opiates to treat pain because new opiate drugs were on the market and the stigma against opiates were coming down. The idea that pain relief was a human right also became ascendant. Many of these doctors used opiates a lot for cancer patients. Poor research done also.
