As good as this book is (if you work really hard), I'm super sick of reading it. End in sight...

It only took 666 pages, but I think I've figured Joyce out. The exact moment a horse appears at the end of this chapter, I knew it would soon be pooping. I wasn't disappointed!

That was a really long chapter

That last chapter - written to mirror the difficulty of childbirth - was easily the most difficult piece of text I've ever read in my lift up to this point.

After re-reading the cyclops chapter, which was impossible the first time, I can now confirm that it may be one of the greatest pieces of writing I've ever read... chapter 13 was also quite enjoyable... some fireworks... if you know what i mean...

This is like 'His Girl Friday' on speed. No clue what I'm reading. Not sure who's narrating this chapter. I'm consistently dazzled by this book about 30% of the time, and wtf'ing the book the rest of the time.

Chapter 11 is a good solid chapter, loaded with sex written in such a way as to be virtually impossible to identify as sex. Predecessor to modernity's repulsion with the word 'moist'.

Absolutely brutal chapter. It's like Joyce heard me say I was finding a comfortable rhythm and was like, 'oh yeah?', and rose from the dead, and rewrote the chapter in my copy so as to make it unintelligible. You win this round JJ. Well played.

Didn't realize how hilarious this was going to be. Here's a great line in a chapter all about eating (and screwing, kinda) and biological processes: 'a ravenous terrier choked up a thick knuckly cud on the cobblestones and lapped it up with new zest.'

Reading this at the same time as I'm reading At the Mountains of Madness by HPL, while in quarantine, is proving to be a recipe for disaster...
