I don't think I read this Mass Incarceration essay when it came out.

A lot of tough on crime democrats worried about getting votes from racist whites promoting policies they claim to disagree with...

"Should Joe Biden run for President" in a footnote... I don't think he was challenged much on his incarceration record except from left, which wasn't given much attention

"The Gray Wastes" can always count on Coates for that nerd reference!

Interesting to hear in his reflection his desire to chase Baldwin, someone I've read only recently.

Another reread of The Case for Reparations. It's a visceral review of the multigenerational wealth theft inflicted upon Black Americans.

Interesting as always to see his framing for N essay of his I've read previously.

These earlier essays seem to end more abruptly than his later writing that I'm used to.

That said, this was an interesting one, connecting black identity and Obama to he legacy of Malcolm X, someone who was largely erased from my American history education.

In my own time as a Civil War history buff, I certainly centered the battles and technology in my reading. Interesting argument.
