Kind of feels like a slog, there is a real lack of momentum.

There is no connection between some of these subplots and I don't feel optimistic that a connection is likely to be revealed by the end of this 700+ first entry in a series. The mysterious elements aren't really compelling and introduction of the poet/bard as a POV character feels completely worthless.

With a good editor this could have been 300 pages.
