In he first twenty one pages you can start to tell that Gene is very jealous of Finny. Finny his best friend is a very good athlete and gene strives to be like him. For example gene jumps off the tree because finny did. Finny thinks there just friends and doesn't see how Gene is jealous.

LATE UPDATE- In the last part of the book Finny dies. This is interesting because at the begging of reading this book some people predicted that. What is gene going to do now that his best friend is dead? Finny was his roommate and best friend how is he going to move on from this?

LATE UPDATE- Gene and leper are having a conversation but I'm a little confused on what its about. Leper started to cry when Gene mentioned something about Brinker, Gene said that he doesn't care about anything that happened to Brinker. What is the significance of this?

LATE UPDATE- Now that Brinker comes into the book more er start to see who he really is. I have a different feeling about him at the start, I thought he would be someone who was more preppy. The Christmas location is at lepers house.

In chapter 7 and 8 so far John Knowles builds Finny's and Gene's relationship. Finny views Gene as one of his best friends but Gene really is still jealous and always wants to be better than him. He views finny as a competitor.

I feel very bad for finny since he cat play sports anymore. This a big deal for him since sports was everything for him and his identity. Im not sure why he jumped when he knew it was high.

In chapter three and four Gene and finny turn on each other. Finny is very jealous of how gene is book smart and genes jealous on finny athletic ability. This starts to tear there relationship.
