Ian "Marvin" Graye added a status update
Day two started early with a visit to one of the many boulangerie in Oberkampf Street. We loaded up on croissant, pain au chocolat and a nice loaf that cost 10c.

Then off to the cemetary to reminisce with my old friends: Helouise et Abelard, Oscar Wilde, Balzac, Colette, and the most important one, Marcel Proust (photo to come). Couldn't find Jim Morrison, so will go back again. You have to be very organised.

Next caught the train to Colonel Fabien, from where we walked down Ave de la Granges au Belles, in search of 10 Belles Cafe, which is run by Thomas Lehoux, an Australian from Sydney who makes great flat whites, Australian style.

Thomas is married to a Swedish woman and has lived in Sweden for several years, but did not know the name of my favourite Swedish band, when I showed him my Soundtrack of Our Lives beanie.

From there, walked down Rue de la Lancry, until we got to Ave de la Republique.

The Rue was a nice strip and we decided to come back another day to have crepes at Lulu la nantaise, in honour of one of Lil's friends:

I took a photo of a mannequin in a window:

...then later spotted a concert poster with a photo of the female singer embracing a female mannequin.

These images were duely captured both by and for a weary traveller.

Crossed over the canal at the beginning of the walk.

Had a lazy afternoon while the girls went shopping, uploading photos, so I can free up some space on my phone and take more.

The girls were tired from all their shopping, so couldn't walk far for dinner.

A fairly ordinary corner bistro meal, though I pinched a week old Telerama TV Guide that had Proust on the front cover.

Saw another poster, this time for for an Erik Truffaz concert. Thinking seriously about going.

Ian "Marvin" Graye A premature note about bookshops in Paris.

I've visited a few neighbourhood shops that had great collections of French language works, and great up-to-date translations of English language works, but so far without visiting Shakespeare and Co or WH Smith (which I could do in London), I have barely seen any English language works, even of French authors.

I looked up second hand bookshops on Google and two or three that I would love to have visited have closed in the last 12 months.

Sometimes, these shops are a personal passion of someone who's grown old and isn't ready, willing or able to transform themselves into what bookselling has become.

I am reluctant to buy much overseas (which is probably part of the problem, because I would rather not carry them around with me and it would be easier and cheaper to purchase online).

I would like to snag some old art and design books though.

More on bookshops in coming updates.

Traveller Ooh, there's a lot of notables buried at the Père Lachaise Cemetery ...how exciting, Mr Pharaoh!

I assume you'll be uploading photo's of the graves sometime.

Jim Morrison's grave is ugly, but Chopin's is lovely.
Proust's is shiny, and Oscar's ..is.. a bit weird-ish? You kiss it? ;) :P

Bricks and mortar carrying paper books bookshops closing down seems to be a world-wide trend, and so very, very sad... :(

Hopefully there will always still be some around for the collectors.
