they found out Misty and Phantom were sold before they could buy them.

paul ends up caught in a lightning storm and runs to his grandfathers trailer to find Misty and Phantom in it. he falls asleep with a piece of mollassas in his hand in hopes of the Phantom or Misty eating it but Phantom only eats it once Paul is asleep

paul is finally old enough to round up some wild horses for an annual pony penning day and he rounds up the Phantom and her foal Misty who have never been rounded up before. him and his sister have earned enough money to buy both the Phantom and her foal. they go to the pony penning grounds and watch the annual race which paul is daydreaming about having Phantom in.

so far im at the point where both the kids are trying to earn enough money to keep the illusive Phantom who is a wild horse that no one has ever been able to round up
