This is very quickly devolving into a YouTube culture story wrapped inside an urban sci-fi novel, and I'm disappointed. Hank even name-dropped "Crash Course" and like... UGGgghhhh. "Write what you know" I guess, but that's exactly what I didn't want out of this novel.

I'm disappointed in Hank for calling the puzzle-solvers in this book "the dreamer community." I'd be shocked if Hank didn't know the name already belongs to undocumented youths in the US, so (at my own risk of speaking out of line as an ally) the audacity of a middle-aged white dude using the name for what virtually amounts to a fictional reddit community--even one built on global interconnectedness--seems wrong.

I like how Hank made the president of the US a woman, because 1) it establishes this world as a separate one from our reality, thereby allowing anything improbable to be possible, but 2) imagine trying to have an Arrival-esque story with Doland Turnip as president.

Lol I wasn't planning on reading this (I'm kinda done with the vlogbrothers malarkey) but I found the audiobook through the library and my curiosity got the best of me. I like it so far.
