Cia is selected to lead the remained ruins of her country after previous wars. She finds out that not everyone can be trusted and not everything is it seems. She pairs up with a student named Tomas who is from the same colony as her. Each test is harder than the last. So-called friends and teammates only betray her.

Cia's father tells her not to trust anyone at the testing and to think of them as her competition. After her roommate commits suicide due to the pressure, she realizes that the system is corrupted and slowly her friends are dying. She starts to fall in love with a boy named Tomas who is a longtime friend of hers. She wonders if she will ever see her family or even pass the test.
