I feel that the author tries too hard to be deep and meaningful in every sentence. It's almost cliche and cheesy to me.

I appreciate the simplicity of the writing, but at the same time it makes Paulo's writing style very unengaging. So far the book seems to be reminiscent of the Bible and fables and somewhat spiritual. The author tells instead of shows and the overarching moral message or lesson of the book could be more subtle.
