This is a dystopian novel set in near future New York where the population is kept in a state of bliss by chemicals in the water rations. It's well written and interesting so far, although the writer seems to have an aversion to using the past perfect tense in back story which as an English teacher I find a little annoying. However, it's still very readable and I'm looking forward to what happens.

It's pretty good reading so far. I'm finding it a real page turner although the ease with which the so-called "rebels" have infiltrated the supposedly oppressive system seems a little far fetched, but then I have to keep reminding myself that this is basically a young adult book whereas I prefer a more gritty realism. It's good for what it is, though.
