Is there anyone out there who uses Kindle Oasis & can tell me if it's worth buying? It's pricey, but I'm really not happy with my Voyage. It's laggy and sometimes simply unresponsive. But before I splash out the 250 + quid, I'd be grateful to know if it's any good. Another reason is that I could use my audio books with it

Thanks xx

Caz I have no idea, although I was looking at the new Paperwhite 32GB which, for £150 you can use for audiobooks as well. https://www.amazon.co.uk/All-new-Kind...

Bubu Thanks! I looked at that one as well, but what makes me wonder is the 7" instead of 6. I know it's not a lot, and I find it hard to justify another £110 for one inch. Maybe I should pay John Lewis a visit. It's the only shop I know which sells them.

But the Voyage turned out to be a proper disappointment. It drives me bonkers with its laggy crap.

Jultri No idea, but that GIF has me mesmerised with it's rhythmic bopping of the Beatles (sans ? one). :)

Bubu Look closer. They're all there, only for a moment, though.

Alex ♈ Hallo Bubu, ich habe mir eins gegönnt. Mit 3G und ohne Spezialangebote. Bin sehr zufrieden.
Guten Rutsch ins Neue Jahr!
LG

Jan I bought one a year ago for a Christmas present to me LOL. (My old kindle was pretty much dead in the water). As I read so much, I decided I'd get the higher model. I have no regrets. I love my Oasis. I don't listen to audio books so have no idea about that side of things. But the function/usability is excellent for my normal reading purposes. The battery doesn't last as long as they promote, though. I seem to have to charge mine fairly often, not the "weeks" they advertised. But overall I'm very happy with my purchase and have no regrets.

Yes, sorry, poorly expressed on my part. I spent a few minutes entranced by the gif, so I realise all 4 are there. What I meant to say is one of them isn't bopping, George Harrison I think? Not withstanding my useless comment, I hope you got the answer you sought from the other readers.

Bev I was torn between the Voyage and the Oasis, wish I had gone for the Oasis now. I'm not too crazy about the Voyage, in fact I could kick myself now

message 10: by Bubu (new)

Bubu @ Jan: I've had it for a few hours now. I must say, the battery life worries me a little. But that can be due to the amount of books/audio books I was downloading. I'd read that the battery life can be tricky. I'll check over the next week. If it remains as bad as it seems, I'll send it back.

@ Jultri: I know what you mean. When I saw it, I had to look twice too :)

@ Bev: As I said to Jan, the battery life worries me a little. But I'll see. Apart from that, it's great. It's really, really great. In terms of size, it feels like going back to the old paperbacks so that's brilliant. It's very responsive, unlike the Voyage. Whatever I'll decide with the Oasis in regards to the battery life, I'll sell the Voyage on ebay, It still goes for £80-100 and I have the original package and will throw in my cover.

I'll let you know. But for us rabid readers, I'd say the Oasis is totally worth it when it comes to reading experience.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Jan BTW I have a neat little cover on my Oasis to protect it when I'm lugging it around. But it also conveniently turns it on/off when you open the cover, and it can be used to stand it up on a table when you're having a coffee :-)

Happy new year!!

Hey Bev, quick update on the Oasis.

I had to ask for a replacement of the first one that I got. It burnt through the battery like mad. The second was better, but considering that I have an iPad and the Voyage, there was still no point having the Oasis, as it still used battery life, although I had flight mode on (so no Wifi) and Bluetooth disabled.

Went to bed with 97%, checked the next morning, and it was on 94%. Not even the iPad does that with all the apps running in the background because I rarely ever close them properly. I wasn't willing to spent £260 + cover for something that I already had with the iPad.

So I sent the second one back for refund as well. I'll wait for the next generation of Oasis, in the hope that Amazon will improve it.

That being said, if they improve it, I'll buy the Oasis in a heartbeat. Super light, and that one inch makes such a big difference. I actually compared it with some of the old paperbacks I still have. And it's pretty much the same size if you use a similar font size.

It is brilliant. The battery life is a bummer, though.

message 13: by Bev (new)

Bev That's great to know Bubu, I think I'll wait too. The Voyage doesn't have the best of battery life either as compared to the old Kindle Paperwhite. I keep mine flight mode on until I need to download/return a KU book because otherwise I'm constantly having to recharge.

Amazon need to get their act together .... charging ridiculous amounts of money for something that doesn't perform as you would expect is not cool.

message 14: by Bubu (new)

Bubu My Voyage is okay with its battery life. But having tested two Oasis' and knowing that it basically drains as much as an iPad, I didn't want to waste 260 quid, Bev. An hour of reading, with light settings low, I was losing 5% per hour. That's where I think, it's better to wait for the next generation.

Though I can definitely see why Jan and Alex love theirs. It's a beauty in terms of reading, Bev. Finally, finally an e-reader that is neither too big or too small, and extremely comfortable to handle, to set up and simply read.

message 15: by Bev (new)

Bev You've definitely sold me on getting one Bubu, I hope Amazon are going to get cracking on the next generation 👍

message 16: by Bev (new)

Bev Meant to ask, do you keep your voyage with WiFi on permanently? I've found if I do it drains the battery super fast

message 17: by Bubu (new)

Bubu Yeah, it's always on and I probably have to charge it every 3-4 weeks. It's the one reason why I sent the Oasis back because I read on different devices as well, and without it will not be synced.

message 18: by Bev (new)

Bev Ah right, I just read on the Voyage so no syncing problems for me

message 19: by Jan (new)

Jan Interesting about the battery life. It is a bit annoying. I do leave wifi on cos of the convenience - I'm often checking things, seeing what the next book in a series is etc. But I do have to recharge fairly frequently. I just make sure if I'm on the road I remember to have a charger with me. But otherwise I love the device.
