Enjoying this very much, overall, although, I think the passive aggressive vilification is heavy-handed. Tell the story but let readers draw their own conclusions about the crisis that you articulately showcase without the backhanded jabs that feel beneath the rest of the narrative. But, as noted, beautifully written and a devastating rebuke of our understanding of what it means to be human.
