The discussion between Pierre & Andre is interesting...and an obvious contrast. Andre proclaims a perspective of selfishness and avoiding causing harm, Pierre (imbued with Freemasonry) proclaims the brotherhood of man.... and Pierre may actually be doing harm (due to his incompetence) while "selfish" Andre may have a more positive effect on people around him. Pierre really does mean well, but is a complete fool

It's a hyuuuge book, but the story keeps on moving, and Tolstoy does a great job on reminding you which character is who, and what they care about.

He would have been a great writer for a TV series...

Already up to part 3 -- this moves at a good clip, esp. for the War parts.
