Jack and Cassie continue to get closer as they hang out more and more. They've been friends for about a week now, and every time they hang out together they go to the lake in the woods. After they talk for a while, Cassie asks Jack if he'll coach her softball team since they're short a coach and he's not playing. Jack thinks this is crazy, but soon reconsiders his choice and thinks about it.

As Jack talked to Cassie more and more, it seemed as if she knew more about Jack than he knew about himself. She talked about how he looked at his brother's funeral, like he was out of it, not noticing anything that was going on. She led him to some places and showed him that she could skip a rock underhanded on water. She's taking him to another place but doesn't tel him where they're going or what it's called.

Jack tells us about his brother and how he died. His brother had always taken risks and he took a big one that night. He snuck out of the house to ride dirt bikes with his friends and ended up flying off a drop off and crashing, dying not long beor his 16th birthday. Also, Jack had expected his parents to come into his room and talk to him about quitting the team, but they never did.

Jack waited to tell his parents about his decision to quit baseball. When they heard it, they were flabbergasted from hearing this and it completely caught them off guard. They worried about him, trying to convince him to keep playing but he'd made his decision. Then finally after more effort from them to try and make him stay with baseball, he came out with, "Baseball won't bring my brother back".

Another day at practice was going pretty good. Everyone stretched in the grass and were ready for their first game. They began taking fielding practice and Jack zoned out a little. Coached called him out and the rest of the team had a good laugh. After this they had batting practice and that went good as well. Practiced ended with him and a few others left, but something inside Jack made him decide to quit the team.

Baseball season had finally started back up. Jack and his friend Gus had been playing ball for years and were excited for the draft. They both ended up on he same team and they wouldn't have had it any other way. Everybody on the team is excited for the new season, with dreams of hopefully making it big and going to the Little League World Series.
