I was prepared for worse but I really am enjoying it so far. I can go without the many half-helpful songs and there are maybe a bit too many descriptions for my taste but I can't help but admire Tolkien for his imagination and thoroughness.
I am also glad to find out that the characters of Pippin and Merry (mostly Pippin) are not as utterly annoying (and by that I mean useless and stupid) as they are in the movies.
