I'm afraid to open this large book which is the next book for our book club. I had no idea it was about baseball. I don't care about sports with balls. What have I gotten myself into?

Reminds me of John Irving. So far the main character is a young athlete . There are many colorful characters like his teammate Schwartz,his roommate and the head of his college. They are no way get as strange as Irving's characters, but for Henry,they're colorful. It isn't about baseball , but about relationships between young men. I think.
