Frodo and the group rode farther. They had one encounter with the black riders where a sword of one pierced Frodo. They then make their way towards Rivendell. Along the way they met Glorfindel, who told Frodo that if the black riders appeared, that Frodo would go on his horse and ride away. This happened, but Frodo got ambushed by many black riders.

Frodo and the group attempted to make their way through the forest. They kept getting lost and instead of going north, they went easterly. The group lays down to take a nap. Frodo lies next to the water, where a tree throws him into it. A willow tree slithers around Pippin and Merry. After shouting for help, Tom Bombadil saves them. He invites them to his house, and the group, yearning for a meal, happily accept.

I just finished chapter two. In this chapter Gandalf visits Frodo and tell Frodo the dangers that Middle-Earth faces. Sauron is rising and needs the single ring that Frodo possesses to rule Middle-Earth. Gandalf tells Frodo how the ring came into his possession, and how he needs to destroy it. To do this he needs to go Orodruin, the fire mountain, and destroy it there.

I finished the first chapter. It was a chapter that started the book and a fun, lighthearted way, but quickly turned mysterious. Bilbo Baggins his heir Frodo Baggins celebrate their 111th and 35th birthday. Bilbo then disappears to go on an adventure and leaves his possessions to many other Hobbits. Frodo gets the ring, and Gandalf warns Frodo about the powers of the ring.

So far I have only gotten into the prologue. It is giving the fascinating history of the Hobbits and life in Middle Earth. The Hobbits are a species similar to Humans, yet much shorter in height and live a much different life style. The prologue goes into detail on how Bilbo Baggins, a hobbit who lives in the Shire, acquired the dreaded ring, that of which the book I am now reading is about.
