The past two chapters were a bit dull. Saramago went more general, doing a bit of world-building, but in doing so became very flowery in his prose and vague. I was much more interested once the narrative returned back to the characters, though their dynamics are beginning to read more as expository. Hopefully this is just a dip and will improve. It just felt too distant from the story.

Very stream of consciousness with the dialogue, but interesting effect. Batches of dialogue run together in one long sentence separated by commas and with only occasional capitalized words to let you know a different person is talking. You get the hang of it, but what I like about it is how it picks up on the feel of blindness. You're not immediately sure who is saying what, but then you pick up on it. Cool execution
