Cassie is under a car because someone was shooting at her. So she was limping to go under the car, she got shot on the leg. She stayed there for awhile because she doesn't know if it's safe to leave and run or just wait.

The story takes place in the eyes of Sammy, who is Cassie's little brother. He starts the story off with him leaving the camp and getting on the bus. Both is dad and sister stayed at the camp because the soldiers didn't let them go with him on the bus. So as Sammy was on the bus he met this girl named Megan.
