It surprised me when Salva's uncle found them, because I didn't think that anyone from the group would be going back at all. Also I thought it was surprising how long the boys survived without food and stuff because I thought it was a long time.

Salva's story takes place in Southern Sudan in 1985. He is separated from his family because rebels attacked his village, so he's trying to find them.

Nya's story happens in Southern Sudan as well, but in 2008. Her biggest problem is that she has to walk a long way everyday to provide water for her family.
