Summary- Gus called Hazel in the middle of the night because he was at the gas station and his G-tube was infected. He went to the hospital and his sisters, nephews, and sisters husbands were all visiting after he went back home.

Vocab- PICC line-“ thin, flexible tube that is inserted into a vein in the upper arm and guided into a large vein above the right side of the heart called the superior vena cava. It is used to give intravenous fluids, blood transfusions, chemotherapy, and other drugs.”

Inference- “‘do we still have time?’ He smiled sadly. ‘If only,’ he said. ‘What’s wrong?’ I asked. He nodded back in the direction of the hotel.”
Gus has not been sounding okay, he seems like something is going on, so I think when he said “if only” he meant it in a different way then “there’s no time to go back to the hotel”

Connection- a few years ago went to California, and it was beautiful but I had the impression that it was very warm and sunny, but when we were in Huntington Beach, it was freezing and I couldn’t swim in the water.
(Hazel & Gus were upset because Peter was not what they thought he would be)

Summary- Hazel has met Peter Van Houten and he is not what she expected but she still thinks that he has the answers to her questions and that’s what she wanted.

Vocab- BiPAP- BiPAP help a person breathe by pressurized air through a mask attached to a small machine.

Vocab- contemporaneity- the quality or state of being contemporary.

Favorites- “As he read, I fell in love the way you fall asleep: slowly and then all at once” This quote is so adorable and sweet I remember watching it in the movie, I love it!!!!

Summary- Hazel got sick and she was sent to the hospital for a while but now she’s back home reading a note Peter Van Houten sent Augustus while she was in the ICU.

Favorite- “given the final futility of our struggle, is the fleeting jolt of meaning that art gives us valuable? Or is the only value in passing the time as comfortably as possible?” I don’t know why, but I really love this quote. Maybe because it makes me think, as good questions do, and I can only hope to find the answer but maybe I’ll never know
