I don't imagine giving this more than three stars because it is not edited to excude a loving atmosphere. I appreciate the nuggets of Canadian history and royal ties to Canadian history. Especially enlightening, having me wonder how many royal enthusiasts know about this, is the love of Queen Victoria's Father's life. He loved a woman he couldn't marry and they lived half their lives right in Halifax, Nova Scotia!

The news items are poorly chosen and tastelessly narrated. I don't know what Barbara Smith, whom I have enjoyed many times before, was thinking because she looked forward to this Canadian romance history project for a long time. My guess is she strove for humour and that got garbled into salaciousness. As I stated before, I am continuing this for the history portraits within. I wish this were properly about love.

I looked forward to this but don't rush to add it. It is poorly done. I am disappointed that Barbara Smith's obvious approach to the subject of love is gossipy. Her compilation of information is clunky; with negative, tacky, common knowledge news items. Anyone, a non-writer, could have done a fair job. No authenticity was attempted, like interviewing family. I will merely draw historical information from this.
