Jerry How do you like it so far? I’ve read Freedom and 2 of Franzen’s essay collections, but I haven’t yet read this one, his most famous title...

Matt Musselman It's the first of his books I've read, but kept showing up over and over and over again in recommendations based on things I've liked.

I really like it. It's not always an easy read (not a page-turner, so to speak), but it's really satisfying. Franzen's innate understanding of human psychology and the human condition is amazing, and there have been like half a dozen times when one of the characters will do something and I think, "I though I was the only one who did that!"

I get the impression Franzen is a love/hate kind of author, so if you've liked his other stuff you'll probably like this. But like several other similar books I've read, I can also think of half a dozen friends who would despise it ("Where's the plot?!? Who's the good guy here? What's the point of all this? All these people are sad.").
